Showcase Spotlight: Standout Galleries of Art Dubai 2024

Discover the cream of the crop among the galleries at Art Dubai 2024, where the 17th edition of this prestigious event unfolds against the backdrop of Madinat Jumeirah. With over 100 galleries in attendance, the spectacle kicked off on February 28th and will mesmerize art enthusiasts until March 3rd.

Nestled within a stone’s throw of the iconic Burj Al Arab, the fair showcases its splendor across four distinct categories: contemporary, bawwaba, modern, and digital. The contemporary realm steals the spotlight with its sheer magnitude, enveloping visitors in a world of artistic wonders set against the backdrop of cascading chandeliers.

Standing tall among the exhibitors across contemporary, modern, and digital domains is Leila Heller Gallery, a powerhouse from Dubai and New York. With a lineup featuring luminaries like Arash Nazari and Marwan Sahmarani, their contemporary exhibit entices collectors with pieces ranging from $6,600 to $85,000. Meanwhile, their modern showcase shines the spotlight on Marcos Grigorian, with works priced between $35,000 to $325,000, catering to institutional acquisitions with finesse.

Indian galleries make a notable presence, particularly in the Bawwaba section, with NIKA Project Space emerging as a beacon of creativity, showcasing the captivating works of Mirna Bamieh.

Experimenter’s booth stands out for its meticulously curated selection, titled Making Visible, featuring artists like Ayesha Sultana and Praneet Soi. Co-founder Priyanka Raja sheds light on their curatorial process, emphasizing the architectural narrative woven into the exhibition’s fabric.

Chemould Prescott Road steals the spotlight with a lineup of three formidable female artists, including the recent addition Dana Awartani, showcasing their prowess in a visually stunning display.

Not to be outdone, Sabrina Amrani captivates audiences with a compelling presentation, including the works of Manal AlDowayan, set to represent Saudi Arabia at the prestigious 60th International Venice Biennale 2024.

lmine Rech and Vadehra Art Gallery make a triumphant return to the fair, aiming to expand their footprint in the region. Thibault Geffrin, Director at Almine Rech, expresses confidence in the burgeoning Dubai art market, highlighting their commitment to fostering artistic dialogue and growth.

Artistic Director Pablo del Val’s curated sections delve into the nuances of the ‘Global South,’ celebrating the diverse tapestry of micro-societies that converge to shape Dubai’s vibrant cultural landscape. As he aptly puts it, Dubai is a melting pot of smaller societies, coming together in a harmonious symphony of mutual respect and artistic expression.
